Professional Overview
Dakin started surveying with the National Geodetic Survey as a GPS observer in 1988, giving him the opportunity to visit many parts of the country through 1990. After graduating from college, he moved to the San Juan Islands and surveyed for a year on Orcas Island, before moving to Seattle in 1992. He has held all survey positions throughout his 28-year career. He says that the best part of Land Surveying is the outdoor element associated with the job and the ever-changing challenges associated with the profession.
Personal
Dakin and his wife Erin, enjoy their two daughters, two dogs and all the adventures associated with them. “When I am not surveying I enjoy spending time with my family on the family-owned property located near Lake Roosevelt in eastern Washington. Growing up in eastern Oregon I have come to appreciate the late summer, fall, and winter as my favorite times of the year as I spend as much time as possible outdoors with our dogs, training them in the art of pointing towards upland game birds. I also enjoy alpine skiing in brand new powder snow, cycling and running and keeping myself somewhat fit, so I can keep up with my girls, and the dogs.”
